LUMIUM ONLINE EXPERIENCE

CLIENT : LUMIUM

 

Lumium is a premium Architectural Lighting company based in Irvine, California. They wanted to revamp their overall responsive web experience and introduce new stories around their products and their company. They wanted to showcase their product lines in a branded scientific periodic table to show congruency between their existing sales and trade show materials and to create a more dynamic and engaging way to discover their products.

THE CHALLENGE
To create a unique online experience to help highlight their overall product line in a fresh way and to integrate a dynamic interactive periodic table to help showcase these products.

THE SOLUTION
By creating a robust responsive web solution to help increase customer engagement with the brand, drive leads for new business and to offer insights into their R&D and product development process as well as create a more streamlined sales funnel.

 

THE STORY

 

RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY


 

As a starting point, secondary research was done around the Architectural lighting industry as a whole, industry standards were studied as well as different manufacturing processes.

Competitive analysis of other key local players in the Architectural lighting space were also studied.

Studying Lumium’s own lighting production facilities was important to understanding their company culture, key manufacturing advantages and R&D, their overall design capabilties, core competencies ,etc. to help capture their overall brand story.

DESIGN AND PROTOTYPING


As a starting point for the design process, analyzing their existing brand assets and product matrix was essential to
get a better understanding of the complete picture of the design challenges that would need to be solved in the project.

Working through various concepts around their main conceptual focus of integrating a scientific periodic table as the main visual construct for engaging users in the online experience, several design studies were conducted to find various ways in which to build this into the overall responsive web solution.

A final version was created as a basis for the dynamic 3D online version.

Various animations and videos of the periodic tables were developed to help explore the various design possibilities.

Product detail pages focused on the functionality of the various products and was expanded to included customization options as well as downloadable spec sheets.

OUTCOME


 

Lumium received high visibility in the Architectural lighting industry as a young innovative startup
company and was eventually sold to ECOSENSE lighting.
